The Washington baseball team advanced to the Super Regionals where they will play Victory Christian today (Thursday) beginning at 4 p.m.
They defeated Lexington and Alva to make it to the next round.
But the Regional didn’t come without a little adversity, after they lost to Alva last Wednesday.
Lexington
Their opening game of the tournament was a 15-0 win over Lexington where senior Owen Andrews threw a dazzler of a game.
“Owen dominated on the mound,” head coach Brad Lucas confirmed. “He pitched it really well against a good team.”
Andrews faced 16 batters in five innings of work in his no-hitter and had 13 strikeouts and allowed one walk.
Offensively, the Warriors scored four runs in the second inning and exploded in the fourth with 11 runs.
Liam Keltner, Jackson Mays and Jack Brady had three RBIs a piece to help the scoring machine.
Alva
The Warriors stubbed their toe in the second game, a 7-5 loss to Alva.
“Alva came out and punched us in the mouth,” Lucas said. “They kept putting it into play. We had a blow-up inning and couldn’t find a way to respond to get out of it.”
The Warriors got out to a one-run lead in the first.
But Alva hung seven runs on Washington in the third inning.
The Warriors scored two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings but the damage was done.
Andrews had a 3-3 day at the plate.
Mays and LD Vinzant combined to strike out nine batters.
“Alva was scrappy and played well,” Lucas said.
Round two
The Warriors beat Alva 10-2 the next day in a do-or-die situation.
Spencer Barton got the call on the mound and struck out nine while walking two.
The Warriors kicked the door of the game open with a five-run first inning.
Keltner went 3-4 at the plate with a home run and two ribbies.
Washington is 28-7.
