Beat Alva and Comanche in Regionals

Posted

After taking care of business against Alva and Comanche in the Regional tournament, the Washington Warriors will host Valliant in the Super Regional tournament Friday.

Games are scheduled for 1 p.m., with the second game immediately following.

An if-necessary game is also on the schedule, for Saturday at 1 p.m.

Warrior skipper Brad Lucas said Valliant is a talented ball club.

He is familiar with the Bulldogs because the Warriors played them earlier this season, resulting in a 1-0 Washington win.

“They’re really good and really athletic,” Lucas said. “They have three good arms they can throw at you.”

Regional tournament

Washington beat Alva 6-2 in the first game of Regionals.

Owen Andrews got the nod to start and went the distance of the seven inning game, striking out eight batters and only allowing four hits.

“He pitched it well and didn’t allow much,” Lucas said.

At the plate, Liam Keltner went 3-4 with an RBI.

Jackson Rico was 1-2 with a walk, a double and had two RBIs.

Comanche

The Warriors then dismantled Comanche, 15-0.

Rico struck out seven batters in five innings on the mound en route to a no hitter.

The Warriors played error-free in the field on the way to the win.

“We pitched it and defended it really well like we always do,” Lucas said. “We hit it pretty well in the tournament too.”

Keltner was 3-3 with a walk and had three ribbies. Keltner was knocking the cover off the ball and all three hits were doubles.

LD Vinzant was 2-3 with a walk and had four RBIs.

Jackson Mays was 1-2 with a triple and scored three times.

Dawson Thomas also scored three times with his 1-1 day. He walked three times.

“Liam Keltner saw the ball really well in the tournament,” Lucas said. “They’re all starting to see it well and hit it well.”

Alva

The Warriors finished the tournament with a 13-3 win over Alva.

Spencer Barton struck out four batters in five innings of work.

“The three starting pitchers in the tournament all went the distance,” Lucas said. “Those guys are pitching it really well.”

Offensively, Jack Brady and Andrews both homered. Brady had two RBIs and Andrews was 2-3 with a walk and four RBIs.

“I like the way we’re coming together as a team,” Lucas said. “We’re capable of playing really good baseball when we play for each other.”

The Warriors are 22-10 as they enter the Super Regional.
