A Graveside Memorial Service for Verna Mae Burns Stephens, 91, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at the Washington Cemetery. Services will be under the direction of the Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.
Mrs. Stephens passed away on April 6, 2025 at her home surrounded by loved ones.
Verna was born April 9, 1933 in Blanchard, Okla. She attended school at Dibble and Washington, and was employed at Washington Public School Cafeteria for 20 years as a cook, retiring as manager.
Verna married R.D. Stephens on September 20, 1946. Together they raised four children and lived a wonderful life. She loved traveling, camping, gardening, and cooking but most of all cherished her grandchildren, great-grands, and great-great-grands - leaving them all with lasting memories and making each one feel they were her favorite.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lydia and Bill Burns; her husband, RD Stephens; son, David Stephens; daughter, Linda Andrews; sons-in-law, Roger Mallory and Wayne Andrews; three brothers, three sisters and two great-granddaughters, Crystal Mallory and Willow Boggs.
She is survived by two daughters, Holly Mattingly and husband, Johnny, of Purcell and Tracy Mallory of Washington; daughter-in-law, Neva Stephens of Blanchard; eight grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and a baby girl, Alcon, on the way in July.
The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Rick Schmidt and his staff for years of caring for Verna, and to Loving Care Home Health & Hospice for the wonderful end of life care.
