Utility woes

Posted

Utility company workers broke a water main serving north Purcell about 10 a.m. Tuesday.

City manager Dale Bunn said the crew was installing a new 12-inch water main on North 9th Avenue when they broke the existing main at Woodbrook Drive.

The break left much of north Purcell without water throughout the day.

Bunn said repairing the break and restoring water service is the responsibility of the utility company.

“We’re watching them,” Bunn said.

The city’s water department superintendent Michael Minor estimated it would be 5 p.m. before water service would be restored to the affected areas.

Included in the outage area were Purcell Municipal Hospital and Purcell Schools.

Bunn said the new, larger water main will serve the new hospital under construction between Zeck Ford and Sunray Baptist Church.

The same utility company caused a water outage a month ago when workers hit a line on 9th Avenue near Grant Street, Bunn said.
