Varnum and Wynnewood come to Wayne today and Friday

Posted

The Wayne Lady Bulldogs were in Maud early this week for their conference tournament.

They picked up an 8-0 win over Konawa, but fell 11-9 to Maud. That loss moved them to the loser’s bracket where they played Stratford at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, after our press deadline.

Their record stands at 5-5

Konawa

Senior Allison Ryan was perfect in the circle for Wayne. She pitched a six inning shut out, allowing just four hits.

The Lady Bulldogs were on the board first in the bottom of the third inning. They plated four runs. They added three more in the fifth and one in the sixth to pick up the 8-0 win.

Emily Woody was the leader at the plate. She went 2-2 with two hits. Ryan had three ribbies.

Maud

In a closely matched game, Wayne came up short in an 11-9 loss to Maud.

The Lady Bulldogs scored two runs in the first inning. But, Maud answered with four runs in the second. They added seven more through the next two innings.

Wayne staged a comeback, plating seven runs of their own in the final two innings, but they could not get over the hump.

That loss set up a game with Stratford in the loser’s bracket on Tuesday.

Luther and CCS

Despite rain cancellations left and right last week, Wayne added a 9-1 win over Luther and a 12-0 win over CCS on Tuesday.

Wayne had 14 hits in the win over Luther. Kaylee Madden led the way with three hits and three RBIs. Woody, Lily Whitaker and Karsen Adams each had two hits.

Ryan was in the circle and went all six innings. She gave up one run on six hits and fanned three batters.

Next up was a 12-0 run-rule win over CCS.

Once again, the bats were hot as Wayne had 14 hits and 12 RBIs in the win.

Brysten Shephard, Faith Brazell, Woody and Madden had two hits apiece.

Madden and Shephard led the team with two RBIs each.

Wayne’s game with Dibble on Thursday was canceled, as was the Wayne festival.

Weather permitting, Wayne will host Varnum on Thursday and Wynnewood on Friday.
