The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said three people were killed in a two-vehicle traffic accident the early morning hours of last Saturday at mile marker 94 in Goldsby.

Troopers reported a 1996 Honda Accord was carrying five people when it was struck by a 2023 Mack Truck.

Killed in the crash were the driver of the Accord, Altus Barnett, 56, of Oklahoma City, and two juveniles, a 12-year-old and an eight-year-old with no addresses given. Due to their ages, the OHP did not identify the children.

A third child, 13, was admitted in stable condition with head, arm, trunk internal and trunk external injuries at OU Medical Center. The child and a 35-year-old female, Melynda Byrd, of Oklahoma City were both admitted to OU Med. Byrd also suffered from head, arm, leg, trunk internal and trunk external injuries. They were both transferred to the Oklahoma City hospital by Wadley’s EMS.

The driver of the truck, Nicholas Sanders, 41, of Carney, OK, was transported by Wadley’s EMS to Norman Regional Hospital where he was treated and released.

Details of the 3:48 a.m. accident were unavailable due to the OHP continuing its investigation.

Troopers that were on the scene of the accident included Chad Pape, Nathan Lipe, Eric Blades and Chandler Jackson. They were assisted at the scene by Goldsby Firefighters and the McClain County Sheriff’s Office.

The conditions of the woman and 13-year-old were unavailable at press time.
