Purcell:
Head coach Aaron Dillard liked what he saw in the intra-squad scrimmage last Friday night.
“It went really well,” Dillard confirmed. “We got a lot of quality work from every level and saw a lot of good things from some guys that are going to have to step up and contribute this year both older guys and younger guys.”
Dillard said with all the changes on the defensive side of the ball, “it was nice to show up in a live environment.”
Two players sustained injuries in the scrimmage, both freshmen. Dillard reported Blane Nicklas has a knee injury and Jack Montgomery has a back injury.
“Other than that it’s high school football everyone gets bumps and bruises,” the coach said.
Dillard noted the offensive line play of Drew Pearson, Halo DiRienzo and Brian Cazares and the play of Cannan Haynes at center.
“We’ve got some good speed with Cooper Selman and Cash Cook. JJ Hitchcock and Easton Resendiz at quarterback did some good things. That’s still a battle.”
On the defensive side of the ball he said Resendiz did a tremendous job at the Mike linebacker position.
“Isaac Auz, Colburn and Layton Percey played well in the back end as did Chance Midkiff and Dylan Caralampio,” Dillard said.
Thursday night’s scrimmage at Conger Field against Dibble has been moved back to a 7 p.m. start due to the heat.
Washington:
Head coach Brad Beller said everything went smooth in their intrasquad scrimmage Friday night.
“We ran 75 plays and got a lot of reps for a lot of people,” Beller said.
“Everyone came out healthy, which is always good,” he said.
The Warriors will travel to Tuttle for a 6 p.m. scrimmage tonight (Thursday) with the Tigers and Lincoln Christian.
“It’ll be a round robin format with the junior varsity following the varsity and then go live quarters after that,” Beller concluded.
Wayne:
The Bulldogs will travel to Apache for a three-way scrimmage with the hosts, Frederick and the Bulldogs tonight (Thursday).
Wayne did not have an intra-squad scrimmage last week.
The scrimmage at Apache begins at 6 p.m.
Lexington:
