Thompson headed to OSU Hall of Fame

Michael Thompson, a 1980 graduate of Purcell High School, will be in the 2023 Alumni Hall of Fame class at Oklahoma State University.

Oklahoma State officials report this is the highest honor bestowed upon an individual, recognizing outstanding lifetime achievement in society and professional life.

Major General Thompson is a former Adjutant General of Oklahoma, serving from 2017 to 2021.

Prior to that Thompson served concurrently as the Oklahoma Secretary of Safety and Security and the Commissioner of the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety.

In his capacity as Public Safety Commissioner, Thompson also was in charge of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

As Safety and Security secretary, he was a member of the Oklahoma Governor’s Cabinet and was responsible for directing all state public safety, law enforcement and corrections agencies.

Thompson earned a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice from Langston University, and a Master of Science from Oklahoma State University.

He served as a State Trooper for 22 years.

Also in the 2023 class are Burns and Ann Hargis, Cecil Lee O’Brate and David Walters.

The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be Feb. 10, 2023 at the OSU Alumni Center.

Tickets will be available this fall.
