In Tuesday’s primary election, State Representatives Cindy Roe and Jonathan Wilk both retained their State House seats while Glen Murray held his County Commissioner seat.

Joe Southern was elected to the County Commissioner District 3 seat replacing Terry Daniel, who did not seek re-election.

Southern defeated Scott Carroll 1,076-850 while Murray defeated Terry Dwain Hillis, Jr., 1,185-429.

Roe defeated challenger Kaity Keith, 2,270-2,255 or 53.10 percent to 46.90 percent. Wilk defeated Mike Fullerton, 3,487-1,581 or 68.60 percent to 31.20 percent.

The proposal to make Selah a township passed, 25-1.

State Question 832, to raise the state’s minimum wage, failed statewide by a margin of 55.38 percent against to 44.62 percent in favor.

In McClain County, the measure was defeated 5,806-2,720, a percentage of 68.10 percent against to 31.90 percent in favor.

Statewide, in the Republican race for Governor, Gentner Drummond and Mike Mazzei will meet in the runoff election. McClain County voters went with Jake A. Merrick 24.79 percent and Mazzei at 22 percent.

The winner between Drummond and Mazzei will face Cyndi Munson in the general election.

U.S. Rep. Tom Cole was nominated to retain his seat. He will face Democratic nominee Mitchell Jacob in November’s general election.

T.W. Shannon was nominated as the Republican candidate for Lt. Governor.

Kevin Hern was nominated as the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate. He will face the runoff winner of the Democratic party’s race between N’Kiyla Jasmine Thomas and Jim Priest.

Cindy Byrd defeated incumbent Todd Russ for State Treasurer by a margin of 61.66 percent to 38.34 percent, 232,679-144,705.

Jon Echols defeated Jeff Starling as the Republican nominee for Attorney General, 55 percent to 45 percent.

There will be a runoff between Robert Franklin and James Taylor for the Republican nomination for Superintendent of Public Education. The winner will square off with Democratic nominee Jennetie Marshall.
