Sterling “Sonny” D. Price died December 16, 2021 in Purcell at the age of 73 years 6 months 14 days. Funeral Services were held Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at the Slaughterville Baptist Church.  Interment followed at Washington Cemetery, entrusted to the care of Wadley’s Funeral Service. Sonny was born on June 2, 1948 in Cole, Oklahoma, to Warren Acie and Jewel Ethylene (Putman) Price. He attended elementary school in Cole, graduating from eighth grade. Sonny started at Washington High School, and then attended Dibble High School.

He was inducted into the United States Army on February 5, 1968, proudly serving until his honorable discharge on January 8, 1970. During his time in the service, Sonny earned many awards and commendations.

After the military, he was successful at many different occupations. He retired from the University of Oklahoma as head of grounds and lead landscaper. Sonny also worked in several restaurants, going on to build and own Sonny’s Café in Purcell, providing warm wholesome country food.

In his younger years, he excelled in sports. His favorite activities included hunting, and fishing. Sonny enjoyed providing humor where he could, always cracking jokes, and making people laugh. He was a man and like all others, had his share of flaws, and also his moments of greatness. He was very much loved and will always be missed and remembered.

Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Jewel Price; his sister, Flora Dotson and husband, Kenneth; his sister, Shirley Cryer; his sister, Tia Price; his sister, Doris Price; and his brother, Robert Price.

Survivors include his wife, Tona Price of Purcell; his son, Eric Fogle and wife, Heather, of Purcell; his daughter, Becky Smith and husband, Dennis, of Corsicana, Texas; his daughter, Leslie Burnett and husband, James, of Dibble; his daughter, Chastity Taylor of Tulsa; his daughter, Stacy Price of Chickasha; his son, Jedidiah Price and wife, Dawn, of Del City; his son, Sterling Price, Jr. of Oklahoma City; his brother, Lewis Price and wife, Beverly, of Purcell; his brother, Roger Price and wife, Kay, of Cole; his sister, Joyce Bottom and husband, Dana, of Cole; his brother-in-law, Alfred Cryer of Ardmore; his 14 grandchildren; his three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
