Stamp Out Hunger by donating canned food

Posted

This Saturday letter carriers in McClain County will collect nonperishable food donations from homes on their routes as part of the 31st National Association of Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

Oklahoma residents received plastic donation bags in their mailbox the week of May 6.

On Saturday, May 11, residents are encouraged to fill the bag, or any plastic bag, with nonperishable food and leave it by their mailbox before their letter carrier arrives.

“The food drive is crucial to our vision of an Oklahoma where no one goes hungry,” said Stacy Dykstra, chief executive officer of the Regional Food Bank.

“The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is a labor of love. We are so grateful for our partners at the National Association of Letter Carriers, whose passion and hard work physically brings in thousands of pounds of food donations each year.”

Since 1992, The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive has collected more than 13 million pounds of food and raised $10,198,979 to fight hunger in central and western Oklahoma.

Donations collected in McClain County will stay local and benefit the several Regional Food Bank partners.

All nonperishable items are welcomed.

Recommended items include peanut butter, canned tuna and chicken, canned fruits, pasta and canned sauce, soup and stew.

Healthy food options are also needed, such as whole grain and low sodium.

Financial donations are also accepted. Text “Food” to 501-501 to make a $10 donation. Every $1 donated helps to provide three meals to Oklahomans living with hunger.

If you would like to donate by phone, please call 405-600-3136, Monday through Friday during work hours.

Sending a donation by mail is welcomed as well.

Send your donation to Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, P.O. Box 270968, Oklahoma City, OK 73137-0968.
