Season ends for Lexington

Posted

Lexington’s boys and girls closed out their 2021-22 basketball seasons at Prague last Monday night.

The boys lost to Hugo’s Buffaloes 61-41 while the girls lost to Davis 48-42 in a tightly contested game.

It was the second loss in the playoffs by each team.

Ezra Faulkenberry led the Bulldog offense with 15 points.

Zeke Faulkenberry and Ty Mixon both finished with nine. All of Mixon’s points came on bombs from beyond the arc.

“I thought overall for year one our guys progressed and we made strides in the right direction to where this program needs to be,” head coach Derek Clark said.

“It was unfortunate to have a couple of key guys out down the stretch. I thought our seniors did a great job helping lead our younger guys in the right direction.

“We just have to continue to improve in the off-season and over the summer to build on this team,” Clark concluded.

The Lady Bulldogs were facing Davis for the third time this season, and though they didn’t come out with the win, head coach Alec Bryen was proud of his team’s hustle and heart.

“That was our best game all season. I’m proud of the girls for showing up through all of the adversity and playing their best ball,” Bryen said.

“Of course we wanted to win, but we have seen the fruition of our hard work.”

Madi Manuel led the team with 14 points. Rylee Beason added nine and Abby Sample had seven.

Despite outscoring Davis 12-8 in the final quarter, Lexington ran out of time and lost the close contest to end their season.

The Lady ‘Dawgs were a young squad and will not lose anyone for next year.

“We’re set up for the future and I know the team will be competitive next year,” Bryen said.
