Purcell’s Board of Education, in its regular monthly meeting Monday at the Administration Building, voted to change food service companies for the 2026-2027 school year.

The board voted to accept the bid of OPAA for the Food Service Management Company.

Purcell had used Keystone for the past 10 years. Every district is required by law to put out proposals and OPAA won the bid this year, Superintendent Dr. Sheli McAdoo said.

To accommodate spring sports’ post season activities, the board voted to move starting school back one week. School will begin August 20 with commencement set for May 21.

In routine matters the board voted

  • assigned Wanda Clark for the encumbrance clerk
  • assigned Lauren Melvin as the district treasurer
  • assigned Jordan Simmons as the payroll/personnel clerk and board of education minutes clerk
  • agreed to a lease agreement with the library and county health department
  • sanctioned the ag booster club, all sports booster club, band booster club and Mama Dragons for the upcoming term

Board members gave their stamp of approval for a TSA trip to Washington D.C. for Nationals and approved a contract with BSN for athletic approval.

In a special meeting last Friday at 1 p.m. the board voted to sell $2,445,000 in general obligations bonds for all the district’s buildings currently under construction.

Garrett Goldsby gave the board an update on all the projects. He said all are close to being on schedule with the exception of the safe room at the Intermediate School, which was delayed due to a gas line that had to be moved prior to the beginning of construction.
