Ruby Jewel Austin departed this earthly life on December 24, 2024, in Purcell at the age of 75 years 1 day. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, January 4, 2024, at the Wadley’s Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell, entrusted to the care of Wadley’s Funeral Service.
Ruby was born December 23, 1949, in Dover, Oklahoma, to Reverend Ocie and Helene (Jackson) Willis.
Her early years in Dover were marked by the warmth of family and community, before the family transitioned to Marietta and subsequently to Purcell in 1963. Ruby’s pursuit of knowledge and her commitment to care led her to complete her high school education, followed by nursing school in the vibrant city of Los Angeles, California. With a spirit full of determination and love, she returned to Purcell, where she dedicated herself to nurturing her family.
For a time, Ruby called Lawton home, becoming an integral part of the Friendly Baptist Church community. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life; she not only participated actively in church activities but also found joy in expressing her spirit through song.
A woman of diverse interests, Ruby found pleasure in sewing, shopping and decorating, which allowed her to create beauty both in her surroundings and in the lives of those she touched. Above all, Ruby cherished the moments spent with her family and friends, ensuring that love and laughter were constants in her life.
Ruby will be remembered for her kindness, her vibrant spirit, and the profound impact she made on the hearts of those fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy of love and connection will continue to resonate in the memories of her loved ones.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, Reverend Ocie and Helene Willis; her brother, Chris Willis; and her nephew, Nolan Willis.
Survivors include her son, Lionel Austin; her son, Nelson Neely; her sister, Lena Martin; her nieces and nephews, Sheila Martin, Keith Martin, Kimberly Pinckney and Skyler Glover and numerous other relatives and friends.
