Rotary Playground opening June 3

Will coincide with Walk the Trail Day

The grand opening of the new Rotary Playground at Purcell Lake has been scheduled for Saturday, June 3.

“Due to construction delays and some needed rain, we had to move our opening date for the Rotary Playground back a few weeks from May 6 as we had hoped,” said City of Purcell Parks and Recreation Director John Blue. “We are making the delay work in our favor though and will have the grand opening during the Walk the Trail Day.”

Walk the Trail Day brings different organizations and businesses to the Lake Trails to host games and activities.

“We’ll have free hot dogs and snow cones, prizes for the kids, and all-around fun for families in our community,” Blue said.

Walk the Trail Day will start at the Chandler Pavilion, located on the south side of Purcell Lake, and will run from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The playground ribbon cutting will be at noon.

The playground will feature two structures for kids of different ages to play, with an 8-bay swing set close by. Each structure will have a large shade built in to help cool families while they play during the summer.

The entire site is designed to be accessible and enjoyable for people of all abilities.

Parking for the events will be available near the Purcell Multi-Purpose Center located at 1400 Chandler Rd. and along Lake Road near the trail.
