A Mass of Christian Burial for Rosetta Genson, 86, of Wayne will be held Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Purcell. Interment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery in Tulsa under the direction of the Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.
Mrs. Genson entered into Heaven’s gates on December 10, 2024.
Rosetta Ann Nevel was born on April 19, 1938 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the 10th of 11 children born to Edward Ray Nevel and Alice Elizabeth (Burton) Nevel.
She was primarily raised in the Tulsa area, more specifically in Catoosa, where she attended school. Rosetta caught the eye of a young man named, Robert “Bob” Eugene Genson. The two quickly fell in love and were married on June 7, 1955.
Due to Bob’s career working in the oil field, the Genson family moved around and lived in various towns throughout Oklahoma. They eventually settled in Purcell in the late 60s, where they bought a home and raised their family. One of her greatest accomplishments in life was becoming the proud mother to her three beautiful children – Rob, Teresa and Mike. She truly cherished the countless memories they shared together.
Rosetta’s determination and dedication to her work were truly remarkable. In her younger years, she worked for the Pepsi-Cola Bottle factory as a bottle roller and at various restaurants in the food industry. Rosetta later worked for Ken’s Red & White grocery store, where she worked her way up to a manager position, and then at United Supermarket where she eventually retired. During her working years, she also obtained her realtor license. Once she set her mind to something, she accomplished it.
In her free time, she enjoyed gardening in her flower beds, completing puzzles on her tablet and cooking. She always kept up with the latest trends and had her own cool style. Rosetta was also very involved in her community, and she really enjoyed being a part of the Okeyha Mother’s Club. In her later years she enjoyed working as a precinct official at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Purcell.
Rosetta was very loving, generous, caring and genuine. She never met a stranger, because she always made friends with everyone! She truly had a heart of gold and was just so loveable. Rosetta was also known to be a “firecracker!” She was very opinionated and would always share her thoughts whether you wanted her to or not! But, she always did it out of unconditional love.
Family was of the utmost importance to Rosetta. Nothing made her happier than the day she became a grandma, and later a great grandma. Her grandchildren meant everything to her, and she never missed an opportunity to cheer them on at any and every event they had. She was their number one fan and biggest supporter.
More than anything, Rosetta was a woman of great faith with a servant’s heart. Her love for Jesus was evident in everything she did and with every encounter she had. She was a faithful member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Purcell. Rosetta was a one-of-a-kind woman who will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her!
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bob Genson; parents, Edward and Alice Nevel; son-in-law, Eddy Jones; daughter-in-law, Debby Genson; granddaughter, Amanda Genson; sisters, Mary Nevel, Peggy Pilgram, Billie Randell, Lynn Matthews and Alameda Hendrix; brothers, Johnny Nevel, David Nevel, Joe Nevel and Jack Nevel.
Rosetta is survived by her children, Rob Genson of Washington, Teresa Jones of Wayne and Mike Genson and wife, Angela, of Purcell; sister, Onetta Webster of Claremore; seven grandchildren, Justin Genson, Jessica Bates and husband, Rick, Michele Caldwell and husband, Derek, Juile Sharp and husband, Brian, Jerrad Genson, Jordan Genson and Jason Genson and fiancé, Brooklynn Young; 13 great-grandchildren, one great-great- grandchild, and a host of other family and friends.
