Richard “Peyton” Sherman III passed away unexpectedly in his sleep, in the early hours on November 2, 2020 in Lexington, Oklahoma at the age of 33 years 5 days. A celebration of life was held Monday, November 9, 2020 at Wadley’s Funeral Chapel. He was laid to rest near his father at Hillside Cemetery, entrusted to the care of Wadley’s Funeral Service, Inc. Peyton was born October 28, 1987 in Anaheim, California, to Rick and Donna (Savas) Sherman. He lived in California until the family moved to Purcell, where he attended school and was baptized at the First Baptist Church.

Peyton fell in love with music at a young age. While attending Purcell High School, he played percussion with the wind ensemble, marched in the drumline with the Dragon Pride Marching Band, and played bass in the basketball band. 

He also co-founded the Purcell High Chess Club, and made many wonderful memories with his friends and classmates. Peyton graduated from Purcell High School in 2005. Peyton continued his education at OU.

Peyton worked for the Ballards in Purcell, which he enjoyed, and he was loved by all of his customers in the community. Peyton also loved his cats, Whisky and Olive, and enjoyed writing, drawing and coloring.

Peyton was preceded in death by his father, Richard Peyton “Rick” Sherman, Jr.; his great-grandma,  Kathrine Settlemires of Purcell; his grandpa,  Richard Peyton Sherman of Goldsby; and his grandparents, Tim and Shirley Gibbs of Choctaw.

He is survived by his mother, Donna  Sherman of Lexington; his brothers, Rick Bailey and wife, Darla, of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and Levi Sherman of Moore; his uncle, Michael Savas and wife, Thea, of Mission Viejo, California; his aunts, Terri Savas and Angela Thomas of Lexington; his grandma, Marylin Sherman of Purcell; his great-aunt, Katie Cagle of Lexington; many loved nieces, nephews, cousins and even more friends; all which he held dear.
