A District 21 Task Force attempt at a routine traffic stop in Garvin County escalated into a vehicle pursuit and subsequent foot chase involving suspect Luis Aguilar November 19 around 8 a.m. at mile marker 85.

During the pursuit, Aguilar’s vehicle side-swiped a semi-truck, causing the truck to roll. The semi-truck driver was injured but has since been treated and released from the hospital, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP).

Shortly after 9 a.m. the McClain County Sheriff’s Office was called in to assist in the pursuit of Aguilar, who had fled on foot after the accident.

OHP aircraft and a McClain County Sheriff Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) were deployed to aid in the search. The UAV quickly located the individual hiding in a tree line. Using live aerial feeds, officers were guided to the suspect’s location, where he was safely taken into custody without further incident.

The OSBI, OHP, McClain County Sheriff’s Office and Purcell Police Department joined forces to assist in locating and apprehending the suspect in McClain County.

Following a foot pursuit, Aguilar was taken into custody. Investigators recovered approximately $20,000 in cash during the operation.

Aguilar is being charged with possession of drug proceeds and felony eluding law enforcement officers.

Both McClain County Sheriff Landy Offolter and District 21 District Attorney Jennifer Austin expressed their thanks to all the agencies for assisting in the arrest.

The McClain County Sheriff’s Office appreciates the coordinated efforts of the District 21 Drug Task Force, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation and the Purcell Police Department in bringing this incident to a safe and efficient conclusion,” Offolter said.

“I want to thank the District 21 Task Force and all of our local partner agencies for their rapid and coordinated response,” Austin said. “Their teamwork was essential in bringing the suspect into custody.”
