Purcell lifters qualify for State

Both high school and junior high

Purcell High School Powerlifters competed last Friday at Anadarko in the Southwest Regional Powerlifting meet with five athletes qualifying for the State Meet this Saturday in El Reno.

Qualifying for State were Jose Tarango who placed fifth in the 132 class with an 800 pound total, Titus Mason who was fourth in the 168 pound class with a total of 1,065 pounds and Rowan Ardery who was third in the 181 pound class with a total lift of 1,120 pounds.

Head coach Kurt Gray said Adam Edelman and Zicorrie Davis also qualified for the State Meet.

Other lifters who competed were Angel Gayton, Payson Purcell, Jose Ochoa, Luke Edelman, Jace Clary, Carlos Miranda, Payton Rivera, Brody Holder, Kerek Cravens, Jake Scott, Tavian Engert, Brendan Bacon, Jane Hoffman, Kevin Lawson, Ty Jasperson and Hunter Shaw.

Purcell Junior High lifters also traveled to Anadarko last week to lift in the junior high portion of the Regional Powerlifting meet.

Riley Davis placed fourth in the 147 pounds class with a total of 515 pounds.  Noel Chavez placed fourth in the 157 pound class with a total of 815 pounds. Rigo Carrillo placed fourth with a total of 770 in the 198 pound class.  Michael Heck placed fourth in the 220 pound class with a total of 700.

Gunnar Baker also placed fourth in the heavyweight class with a total of 750 pounds.

Head coach Kurt Gray said all of those lifters qualified for the State Meet.

Andrew Anderson lifted in the 220 pound class and was invited to the State Meet at El Reno this Thursday.

Other lifters who competed included Collin Wilbur, Jonathan Minor, Kaden Pliler, Mavrik Akerman, Hunter Shaw and Brian Cazares.

“All of these lifters set new personal records on one or more of the powerlifts,” Gray said.
