Will open show with National Anthem

Purcell’s Kaden Pliler has been selected to sing the “Star-Spangled Banner” at the Oklahoma Youth Expo in March.

The 8th grader will sing for the commercial gilt and commercial heifer show.

He was selected for the honor out of over 40 applicants after submitting an audio file.

Pliler was encouraged to apply by Purcell FFA sponsor Erica Keen.

He has previously sung the anthem at Purcell basketball games and over the intercom at the Purcell junior high school for Veteran’s Day.

Pliler has had no formal voice training and has been singing since he was about nine years old.

He will try out for the Oklahoma FFA choir in March.

Pliler was selected from over 300 applicants to represent the state in the OkMEA’s (Oklahoma Music Educator’s Association) All-State Choir in Tulsa two weeks ago, where they rehearsed Wednesday-Friday and then performed the concert Friday afternoon.

The following week, he joined his sister, Anastyn, and 11 other classmates from Outside the Music Box for OkMEA’s Circle the State with Song concert at the Nancy O’Brien Center for the Performing Arts.

He’s currently cast as Wiesel, the mayor, a Newsie and Mr. Jacobi in the Lyric Theater’s production of Newsies in May as well as Curtis in Outside the Music Box’s production of Sister Act Jr., also in May.
