In an announcement made Monday, the Purcell Baseball Softball Association was the winner of the TruGreen Spaces campaign and a $25,000 renovation grant. A check presentation was made with members of the PBSA board present along with representatives from TruGreen.
The association will receive a grant to upgrade facilities used year-round by athletes and families from Purcell and surrounding towns.
Members of the PBSA board are president Jerrod Klein, vice president Laura Smith, secretary Laney Wren, Treasurer Lynn Bayless and board member Becca Franco. The co-coordinators for baseball are Mercedes and Nick Stockbridge and the co-coordinators for softball are Carly Jenne and Bryan Chambers.
From April to June the program accepted entries requiring a description of the fields and pictures, if possible. They accepted 585 submissions from 36 states.
Hannah Gulledge, the winning entrant, had this to say in her submission, “This would be huge for our town and also up to ten surrounding towns that come to use our fields. Purcell is a small town with sometimes, limited resources. But, we have so many kids that put these fields to good use …
“We have so many locals that volunteer time and money to keep these fields the best that we can, so I know this would be appreciated.”
