New Warriors

When the school bell rings in the start of the 2020-21 academic year at Washington today (Thursday), four teachers new to the district will greet students.

They are Carrie Hatley, Amy Newby, Haley Price and Melinda Tague.

Hatley is teaching sixth grade English and eighth grade science. 

She is a graduate of Ardmore High School and Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

Her previous teaching experience was at Plainview Elementary School,

“My father taught biology and I grew up loving science,” she said. “I am looking forward to being in a tight knit community with wonderful people who have a great love of sports.”

Hatley and her husband, Dustin, have four children – Ty, Keeton, Landry and Skylar.

Newby is teaching third grade. She previously taught at Woodward.

She is a  graduate of Elkhorn (Neb.,) High School and Northwest Oklahoma State University.

She and her husband, Andy, have four children – Preslee, Devre, Harlee and MaKenzie.

“Andy and I got married and we sent the youngest to college,” she said. “I’m ready for new challenges.”

Price is teaching junior and senior English at the high school.

She is a graduate of Norman High School and the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma.

Before coming to Washington, Price was an English teacher at Newcastle High School.

She and her husband, Chris Price, have a 7-year-old son, James.

“My husband’s family attended and taught here,” she said. “I have always hoped to be able to teach at Washington because they had such great experiences.

“I just love what I do. I can’t wait to create a positive, engaging experience for every single student.”

Tague is teaching agricultural education for grades nine through 12. This is her 25th year to teach ag ed, including 14 years with Norman Public Schools.

She is a graduate of Claremore High School and Oklahoma State University.

She is married to David Tague and they have two sons – Zachary and Seth.

“My family lives here and has been part of the community for 15 years,” she said. “I look forward to working with FFA members and their families in Washington and educating young people about the opportunities in the ag industry.”

Tague enjoys working with her family’s cattle operation and added her favorite hobbies are watching Washington Warrior and OSU sports and “anything outdoors.”
