Funeral services for Nelda Moore, 81, of Purcell will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at Union Hill Baptist Church. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell under the direction of the Wilson-Little Funeral Home of Purcell.
Mrs. Moore passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2025.
Nelda Gaye Moore was born February 24, 1944 in Purcell, Okla., one of six children born to Boyd and Lucille (Williams) Moore.
She was raised near Woody Chapel and attended school at Washington, graduating with the Warriors Class of 1962. Nelda married a young service man named Gaylon Gray. Their very first home was in Germany, but they returned back home to Purcell in 1968, as they were expecting the birth of their daughter, Amy.
Nelda worked for the McClain County Extension Office for a time, and then the County Clerk’s Office. In 1976, she ran for County Clerk, and served two terms, and served as President of the OK State County Officers Association in 1980-1981. She then began working for the Oklahoma State Auditor & Inspector’s Office as a County Service Manager helping county officers across the state. She retired in the early 2000s.
Nelda stayed busy in retirement, she worked at Guaranty Abstract Co. and also as a Real Estate Agent for Coldwell Banker. In 2006, she married Jack Moore, and two families became one. Nelda was an avid sports fan and cheered loud for her OU Sooners and the OKC Thunder. She was crafty and enjoyed tending to her garden, but most of all, she loved spending time with her girls. She was a proud Ninnie of Haley and Josie, Brody and Sutton and Garrett and Chance and spent her days following them in their various activities and sporting events.
Above all, Nelda was a woman of faith and longtime member of the Union Hill Baptist Church. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be dearly missed!
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Moore; her parents, Boyd and Lucille Moore and siblings, Kaye Kelly and Allen “Butch” Moore.
Nelda is survived by her children, Amy Gray of Purcell, Paul Moore and wife, Stacy, of Washington and Kelly Riley and husband, Jamie, of Washington; Brenda Lee and husband, Leon, Linda Vaughn and husband, Dave, Charlotte Weaver and husband, Terry and sister-in-law, Sue Moore; her pride and joy, grandchildren, Haley, Josie, Brody, Sutton, Garrett and Chance; and a host of other family and friends.
