Minor flooding hampers travel

Other than a few wash outs here and there, McClain County District 2 County Commissioner Wilson Lyles reports no major damage from the heavy rain Monday night and Tuesday morning.

Unofficially, 5.9” fell over night Monday and through the early morning hours of Tuesday.

Areas in Wayne received between 4.5” and 5” with reports in the Byars and Rosedale area of up to 8”.

The 5 1/2” rain caused some minor flooding in Central Oklahoma. Firefighters were called out in Lexington to direct traffic on Broadway with water flowing over the city’s main thoroughfare.

Purcell Register employee Doris Caldwellhad to turn around three times and change her route from her home east of Lexington to Purcell to get to work Tuesday.

The flooding in Lexington closed one lane of SH 77 on the curve in Lexington forcing motorists to take routes around it.

The northbound lane was open.

Rain continued to fall during the day Tuesday bringing the 24 hour total to 5.9” That coupled with the 2.2” that fell August 30 and 31.

Another .15” fell overnight Tuesday.

That brings the unofficial total for the year here to 39.40”.

The rain was scattered August 31 with some parts of town getting .2” and other residents reporting up to nearly and inch of rain.

Oklahoma City has received 28.90” so far this year.

The normal for the year-to-date is 25.09”.

 The  annual amount for this area is 36.52”.
