McClain County Deputies were requested to assist agents with the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics last Thursday in a pursuit.
Agents were attempting to stop a vehicle for a simple registration violation when the driver refused to yield to their emergency equipment.
The driver led agents on a pursuit off of I-35 through Purcell at exit 91 and into the Town of Wayne.
Both agencies terminated the chase of the vehicle as it traveled west on SH 59 back toward I-35.
The vehicle was last seen entering back onto I-35 heading south.
A short time later, deputies discovered the vehicle was at the 84.5 mile marker, off of the roadway and down an embankment in what appeared to be an attempt to hide the vehicle that was found unoccupied.
While deputies were checking the vehicle, other responding deputies found and detained an adult female passenger and her two dogs a half mile away from the vehicle on the Jenny Lane overpass.
Deputies began an extensive search of the surrounding areas for the suspect both driving and on foot.
The investigations team deployed an aerial drone coordinating with the K-9 unit and deputies on the ground.
They searched multiple open areas along with homes, barns and outbuildings.
The suspect was found a short time later hiding inside of a lean-to structure in the area of Jenny Lane and 120th.
Both subjects and the vehicle were turned over to state agents without incident.
The sheriff’s office would like to thank the community for their support and the phone calls to our communications center providing sighting information of the suspect.
OBN Agents arrested Robert Ortiz, 62, of San Antonio, TX for attempting to elude.
