Mary Etta Jones passed away on August 5, 2025 at Sunset Estates in Purcell, Oklahoma. She was born February 1, 1953 in Canyon, Texas, to Myrta Bernice (Perkins) and Jim Henry Johnston. She was raised in Purcell until her family moved to the Rosedale area. She graduated from Wayne High School in 1971.
Shortly after graduating she married Dickey Ray Jones, also of Rosedale. They made their home in the Rosedale area and she was a member of the Paoli First Baptist Church.
In addition to raising her two sons, she also worked at Kellwood in Pauls Valley, as a waitress at The Pink Poodle in Purcell and Circle H Restaurant in Wayne, as the Jewelry Department Manager at Purcell Walmart, as a ticket sales person at Hollywood Theater in Norman and finally as a people greeter at Purcell Walmart until she retired.
She loved to read and enjoyed watching mystery and western tv shows. She will be remembered for her positive outlook on life even during times of struggle, her constant infectious smile, and her great cooking abilities, especially her delicious chicken and dumplings and fried chicken. She cherished spending time with her immediate and extended families.
She was proceeded in death by her father, Jim Henry Johnston; mother, Myrta Bernice Baker; stepfather, Billy Ray Baker; sister, Ellen Marie Walker; nephew, Joseph Mancil Matthews and niece, Alta Lorina Matthews.
She is survived by her two boys, Jonathan Ray of Rosedale and Justin Chauncey of Longmont, Colorado; her mom, Alta Johnston; sister, Bonnie Bradley; brother, Rick Johnston; brother, Paul Ray Baker and brother Scott Johnston. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held August 8, 2025 at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell.
