Posted

Funeral services for Margaret Thompson Pierce Roberts, 90, of Purcell were held Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at the Lexington Cemetery. Services were under the direction of the Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.

Mrs. Roberts went home to be with the Lord and her first husband, Otto, on May 16, 2020.

She was born to Roy and Bertha Thompson on June 20, 1929 near Lexington, Okla., where she attended school for 12 years and was actively involved in the rural lifestyle of a hardworking church-going ‘farm family’ during the difficult years of the Great Depression that preceded World War II.

She married James “Otto” Pierce, a World War II veteran, on June 22, 1947. Along with being a housewife for many years while helping rear the five children she and Otto were blessed with, she also worked several years for, and later retired from, the state of Oklahoma as a clerical worker at Joseph Harp Correctional Center.

She loved life, her family, living for the Lord – and always claimed to have “never been tired a day in my life,” despite living it busily and vigorously in many different ways. She loved to cook, was an excellent seamstress, loved gardening/canning, enjoyed travelling, had many hobbies down through the years – including crocheting, painting, quilting – and she was an active participant in various church activities, including teaching Sunday School classes for many years for people of different age ranges.

She also had a knack for writing plays and inspirational poetry, and the appreciation she had for quality instrumental music and anointed church singing was also passed on to her children and grandchildren. The winter season was something she also embraced because she loved the ‘hunkering down’ aspect of winter and she could further enjoy, in the cozy/warm atmosphere, a good cup of coffee with indoor activities that included various board games, card games and dominoes – along with watching videos of old movies, and reading inspirational books, magazines, and her EVER-present Bible that was FULL of her many notes and underlined scripture passages.

Genealogy was another passion of hers and she knew a lot of family history that took place in her own Thompson/Steele family bloodlines – as well as the bloodlines of the families of EACH of her husbands. She also LOVED the Christmas season and always made it memorable for her family and loved ones, especially in the giving of items that were handmade or baked by her.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, James “Otto” Pierce; sisters,Wanetta Thompson, Evelyn Thompson McCaslin, Delores Thompson Shobert and Inez Thompson Simmons; brother, Doyle “Sonny” Thompson and granddaughter Hailey Beth Pierce.

She is survived by her present husband, Lloyd Roberts; sons, Jim (Jackie) Pierce, Joel (Sheila) Pierce and Jeff (Jo Lynn) Pierce; daughters, Kochetia Morman, and Karen (David) Cagley; brothers, Dean (Pat) Thompson and Chris (Patti) Thompson; grandchildren, Travis (Denise) Perry, Kristy Perry, Nicole (Michael) Shinn, Marty (Marie) Pierce, James Pierce, C.J. (Amy) Pierce, Re’my Pierce, Jeffrey (Anjanette) Pierce, Jason (Latisha) Pierce, Jodi (Andrew) Dozier and Cori (Seth) Davis; great-grandchildren, Breanna Perry, James Lukas Perry-John, Titus Pierce, Jack Pierce, Shay Pierce, Tyler Pierce, Ethan Pierce, Shamane (Clint) Glover, Michaela (Kyle) Powers, Gabriel Pierce, Ezekiel Pierce, Madison Shinn, Luke Shinn, Emily Dozier and Olivia Dozier and many nieces, nephews and friends.

The family would like to give special thanks to all of her caregivers for their kindness at the Westbrook Gardens Senior Living Facility and Sunset Estates Nursing Home in Purcell, Okla.
