Funeral services for Lorene Frances (Chapman) Henderson, 93, of Purcell will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 12, 2024 at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell under the direction of the Wilson-Little Funeral Home of Purcell.
Mrs. Henderson passed away Sunday, September 8, 2024.
Lorene was born April 17, 1931 in Osawatomie, Kansas, the youngest of two daughters born to Frank and Georgia (Dapking) Chapman. Lorene grew up during “The Great Depression.” When she was 11 months old her mother passed away, times were hard so both she and her sister moved to live with their grandparents.
Through a mutual friend, Lorene was introduced to Grady Henderson, who was away serving his country. The two began writing letter back and forth to each other. After a few letters, the young couple met in Elmore while Grady was on furlough for the holidays. It was love at first sight, and Lorene married Grady on December 23, 1947, in Oklahoma City.
They made their first home in Oklahoma City and spent some time in Tulsa before settling in Purcell in 1951. Together they raised their only son, Mike. The couple was happily married for 72 years before the passing of Grady in February of 2020.
Lorene worked for Rubeun Schwarts and Dorsett Electronic before Lorene and Grady opened their own business. The couple owned and operated Modern Radio and TV on Main Street in Purcell for over 23 years.
Lorene’s whole life was devoted to her family. She cherished spending time with Grady and missed him immensely after his passing. Lorene was a woman of faith and a longtime, faithful member of First Christian Church of Purcell. She was a wonderful wife and mother, grandmother and great grandmother, sister, and a great friend. She will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Henderson; her parents, Frank and Georgia Chapman; her granddaughter, Jaime Henderson; her sister Gloria Churchwill; and her nephew, Harold Boston.
Lorene is survived by her son, Mike Henderson of Purcell; her great-granddaughter Zoè Adam of Edmond and a host of friends.
