Four wins last week, Connors State tourney on tap

Monday night Lexington’s Briley Lacquement struck out 15 batters on the way to a Lady ‘Dawgs’ 13-2 win over Holdenville.

The senior right-hander pitched all five innings allowing just two runs on five hits and one walk.

“Briley is a bright spot. It took us a little bit to get on the same page but we’re getting there. She’s a very competitive kid which makes it very fun,” head coach Monty Ervin said.

Lacquement surpassed her 500th high school strike out last week.

Lexington got on the board in the top of the first inning when Brodie Anderson singled, Mackenzie Manuel grounded out and an error scored one run each.

They added five runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

The Lady ‘Dawgs collected 13 hits – two apiece from Lexie Torres, Merabelle Neilson, Anderson, Manuel and Lacquement. Charlie Ross, Emma Garrett and Cote Garver had one hit each.

Manuel led all batters with four ribbies.

Hall of Fame Festival

Lexington picked up two lopsided wins while in Oklahoma City at the Hall of Fame Festival, a 13-0 win over Frederick and a 10-0 besting of Commerce.

Through two games, the Lady ‘Dawgs collected 20 hits, led by Neilson’s five.

Thirteen RBIs were amassed over those two games. Brodie Anderson had five in the Commerce win thanks to an inside the park grand slam and a double that scored one run.

“We swung it well in Hall of Fame. The top of the line up is coming around and our base running has been outstanding.”

Lacquement was, again, dynamic in the circle. She fanned eight batters in the Frederick win and four in the win over Commerce.

Emma Garrett came on in relief for both games.

“We’re getting quality innings from Emma right now, too, which helps,” Ervin said.

Bethel

Last Tuesday, Lacquement held the Lady Wildcats scoreless from the circle in Lexington’s 3-0 win.

She struck out seven batters and allowed just five hits.

Six Lady ‘Dawgs had a hit in the win –Torres, Neilson, Anderson, Kora Parker, Ross and Lacquement.

Lexington’s three runs were thanks to a homerun over the right field fence by Parker.

Lexington was scheduled to be in Henryetta on Tuesday. They will travel to Warner for the Connors State Tournament starting Thursday. The Lady ‘Dawgs play Roland at 3 p.m.

“Right now we’re healthy and playing well. We have some tests coming. Warner and Keifer, who we’ll see this weekend, are both really good. The grind is coming.

“I like to keep the pressure on them and not let them think they are better than they are. I’m proud of the young kids stepping up and starting to figure it all out.”
