Lexington headed to Konawa Friday

Lexington opens the 2026 gridiron season on the road at Konawa Friday night with kickoff set for 7 p.m.

A senior laden team, the Tigers are coming off a 9-2 season last year that played a couple of rounds in the playoffs.

“They want to show people they were for real last year,” Lexington Head Coach Sean Guerra said.

Guerra said his club will have to match Konawa’s physicality and be consistent.

“If we can make three to four yards a play and catch the ball where its thrown we can move the football and that’s what will give us the best chance to win,” Guerra said.

The Tigers will employ a 4-3 on defense and work out of a power set on offense.

“They like to run an H back offense and run right at you,” the coach said.

In their scrimmage last week at Lone Grove Lexington got in a lot of repetitions.

“They had 65 guys and we had 21 so we got a lot of action with their twos and threes,” Guerra said.

“We came out and moved the ball on them pretty well,” the coach said. “We didn’t throw in the towel when we faced adversity.

“Our players went out and fought,” he continued. “We did a lot of good things. We have one senior lineman and are starting four freshmen. We had some of the best pass protection I’ve seen since I’ve been here.

“Defensively, there are a lot of things we can work on,” Guerra said. “The ceiling is a lot higher than what people think for this team.”
