The Wayne Lady Bulldogs got win number 16 last Friday when they topped the Lady Badgers 13-6.

In her first at-bat of the game, Kaylee Madden took her first pitch and sent it out of the park, scoring two runs.

Wayne added two more in the second inning, five in the third and two in the fourth. Elmore City scored four in the fourth to put the score at 11-4.

The Lady Badgers added two more in the fifth inning, but Wayne scored two insurance runs in the seventh to seal the win.

The Lady Bulldogs had 19 hits and 14 RBIs in the game.  Sophomore Daliyah Fuentes led the way at the plate with four hits and an RBI. Haylee Durrence and Jordyn Debaets had three hits each.

Haiden Parker led the team with four ribbies.

Shyleigh Mantooth was in the circle for the win. She fanned one batter.

They also notched their first loss when they fell to Lindsay, 6-5, on Thursday in extra innings.

According to head coach Charles Durrence, several runners were left on base in the loss.

“We didn’t hit the ball as well as I’d like and we left too many on base. It was uncharacteristic of the way that we play.”

The game was knotted at five-all through seven innings, when a Leopardette hit a solo homerun to win the game for Lindsay.

Both teams had 15 hits.

Leading the Lady Bulldogs with three hits were Durrence and Madden. Parker and Mayce Trejo each had two.

Mantooth was in the circle for the loss. She fanned two batters.

“The girls were upset about the loss, but we talked about how we wouldn’t let one loss define our season. We have lots of opportunities presented to us and we have to make the most of them,” Durrence said.

Wayne won their first meeting in extra innings, 5-4, on March 4.

Last Tuesday, the Wayne Lady Bullodgs beat Vanoss twice to win the RWB Conference Championship.

They beat the Lady Wolves 14-13 in the afternoon to advance to the championship game. Then they awaited their opponent who would, again, be Vanoss.

They beat the Lady Wolves a second time, 21-11, to claim the top title.

The tournament started last Monday when Wayne got a 28-12 win over Maud and an 11-7 win over Stratford.

Monday’s game with Crooked Oak was rained out. And, Tuesday’s games with Western Heights and Maysville suffered the same fate.

Wayne is scheduled to finish their week in Dibble on Thursday and in Vanoss for a festival on Friday.

They play Varnum at 10:30 and Ada at 11:45.

“We’re matched up with two tough teams so we have to show up and play defense. Our defense has been good for us.”
