The Wayne Lady Bulldogs finished their season with an 18-14 record and as District champs.
They traveled to Cyril on Thursday where they dropped games to #1 Cyril (13-0) and Healdton (11-1) to end their fast-pitch season.
Two seniors are lost to graduation in Alyssa Hobson and Lily Whitaker.
“We met all three of our team goals so I’m super proud of this team.
“I’m not sure many people expected us to have this successful of a season after last year,” head coach Megan Moreno said.
Cyril
Wayne’s bats were cold in their first game of regionals. They collected just three hits in the 13-0 loss – one each from Hobson, Taelynn Ringwald and Natalie Knobloch.
Moreno was in the circle for the loss. She fanned five batters and allowed 13 runs (seven earned) on 14 hits.
Healdton
The Lady Bulldogs scored first in the second inning when Kimber Reaves singled to score Ringwald.
Healdton answered with two runs in the third inning. Then they added three runs in the fifth and six in the sixth to run away with the win.
Wayne had five hits led by Audra Watts’ two. Ringwald, Knobloch, Reaves and Cylie Jones had one apiece.
Moreno and Knobloch split time in the circle in the loss.
“Regionals just didn’t go as planned. We might have played our worst softball after playing some of our best softball at Cental,” Moreno said.
According to Moreno, it was hard to end the season on the note they did, but the team is looking forward to the spring when most of the team will return to slow-pitch.
