The Lexington Lady Bulldogs were knocked out of Super Regionals last week with back to back losses to Washington, 13-2 and 15-1, on Wednesday.

“They are good ... really good,” head coach Monty Ervin said.

In game one, Lexington collected four hits and held a 2-1 lead after Brodie Anderson hit a two-run homer in the third inning.

But Washington answered and retook the lead with two runs in the bottom of the third. They added five runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

“We came out and punched them in the mouth but Washington responded. He (coach Tylor Lampkin) made some pitching changes that benefitted the Warriors and they settled in.”

The Warriors had five home runs in the game one win.

Lexie Torres, Merabelle Neilson, Briley Lacquement and Anderson had Lexington’s four hits.

Lacquement was in the circle for the Lady Bulldogs. She fanned six batters.

In game two, Washington got on the board early and never looked back. They scored five in the first inning, three in the second and four more in the fourth.

Lexington scored one run in the bottom of the fourth thanks to Kora Parker.

Anderson, Lacquement and Emma Garrett pitched by committee and together they struck out one batter.

The Lady Bulldogs finished the season with a 22-10 record as Regional champions.

“We had a great season and we appreciate all the support we’ve had. We didn’t get a great draw for Supers but that’s just one of those things,” Ervin said.

Seven seniors will be lost to graduation – Anderson, Neilson, Parker, Lacquement, Garrett, Torres and Mackenzie Manuel.

“Those senior girls played their hearts out and I couldn’t ask for anything more from them.

“Losing this senior group will be a punch in the mouth. We’ll just have to rebuild and go for another season,” Ervin said.
