L. Dee Oliphant

Funeral services for L. Dee Oliphant, 82, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 24, 2023 at the Fort Sill National Cemetery, 2648 NE Jake Dunn Road, in Elgin, Okla.

Mr. Oliphant died January 27, 2023.

He was born July 6, 1939 in Joplin, Missouri, to parents Howard Z. and Rossie (Wampler) Oliphant.

L. Dee graduated from Norman High School in 1957. He attended the University of Oklahoma with a dual major in Marketing and Management and minor in Economics, 1957-1961; University of Oklahoma College of Law, 1963-1966; and the University of Virginia Judge Advocate General Corps Advanced Course, 1970-1971.

He worked as a Law Clerk for the Court of Appeals, State of Oklahoma, 1974-1975 and H&O Energy Management, 1978-1987. He was a self-employed attorney from 1987 until his passing.

L. Dee was a proud veteran. He served in the US Army, Judge Advocate General Corp and retired with the rank of Lt Colonel, 1966-1972 and the Oklahoma Army National Guard, Judge Advocate General Corp, 1972-1979. He was also a Green Beret.

He was a Vietnam Veteran who received the Bronze Star, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal with 1st Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Commendation Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Oklahoma Meritorious Service Medal, Oklahoma Commendation Medal, Overseas Service Bar, Parachute Badge, Senior Parachute Badge, Master Parachute Badge, and Expert Marksman Badge Rifle and Pistol.

L. Dee had Aviation Ratings for Commercial Pilot, Airplane Single and Multi-engine, Helicopter. He enjoyed farming and loved animals.

L. Dee was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nancy Baer Oliphant; and brother, Howard Z. Oliphant, Jr.

He is survived by his daughter, Melissa J. Boyd and spouse, Ronnie C.; granddaughter, Lisa Swain; sisters, Ann Baker, Betty Zinn and spouse, Dale, and Jane Smith and spouse, Bo; nephews, Mark Baker and Michael Smith; nieces, Carry Baker and Anndee Smith; and many other family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to local animal rescue organizations.
