Kendall Johney Maynard was born to Johney Burse Maynard and Barbara Anna (Melton) Maynard, in Purcell, Okla., on January 3, 1936. He stepped into the presence of Jesus on August 21, 2025 at age 89.
Ken grew up in Washington and graduated from Washington High School in 1954. He attended college at Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Okla., on a basketball scholarship.
It was there that he met the love of his life, Mary Dee Webb. Ken and Mary Dee were married on September 1, 1956. They lived in Oklahoma City, Durant and Calera before settling in Ken’s hometown of Washington, Okla. There they raised four children, Larry Kendall, Cynthia Gale, Janis Deanne and Barbara Michelle.
Ken worked at Fox-Vliet Drug Company in Oklahoma City for several years. He started working at Westinghouse, when it opened in 1972. He worked there, through two name changes- Borg Warner, then York Heat & Air which he eventually retired from in 1999.
Ken and Dee were very active at the First Baptist Church in Washington where Ken was a greeter, taught Sunday School, lead music and served as a Deacon for many years. He and Dee also served on the fellowship committee for many years, serving meals for many funerals.
Ken was so proud of his 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grand-children with another one due in October and one great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Barbara Maynard; wife, Mary Dee Maynard; sister, Joan Parker; son-in-law, Juan Marrero; grandson in-law, Eddie Tabor and granddaughter, Shannon Tabor.
He leaves behind his children, son, Larry Maynard and wife, Cindy, of Washington; daughters, Cindy Marrero, Deanne Maynard and Michelle Place and husband, Danny, all of Washington; grandchildren, John Maynard, Joe Marrero, Jeremy Marrero, Jaci Marrero Simon, Tony Guerra, Sean Guerra, Eddie Guerra, Kendra Place, Andrew Place and Maggie Place; great-grandchildren, Gavin, Emma, Zander, Harley, Nevaeh, Peyton, Kinsley, Aiden, JD, Aubrey, Jack, Wyatt, Slevin, Brantley, Waylon and Lincoln and great-great-grandson, Elliot. He also leaves behind his brothers, Ronnie Maynard of Purcell and Rick Maynard and wife, Jane, of Goldsby; sisters, Peggy Mattingly of Purcell and Bonnie Ragland of Tulsa, plus many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
The family would like to thank everyone for all the calls, texts, messages, food, visits and hugs that have been extended to them this week. They would also like to say a very special thank you to all the Valir Hospice staff for all their help and loving care shown over the last 2-1/2 months.
