Karl Raymond “Koke” Baker

Karl Raymond “Koke” Baker of Wayne was born on June 16, 1932 in Payne, Oklahoma, to L. G. And Zela Lorena (Villines) Baker.  He passed from this life on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 in Oklahoma City at the age of 87 years.

Koke lived in this area all of his life. He was a graduate of Wayne High School. He married Joan “Jodie” Pumphrey on May 12, 1951 in Story and she preceded him in death on December 11, 2010.

Koke served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean conflict. He worked in construction, farming, and was a retired employee of McClain County.

Koke loved his family and spending time with them. He was a multi-talented fiddle, guitar, and piano player who loved playing music and had played with various bands in the area. Koke enjoyed being around people, picking on and joking with them. He also loved all things chocolate. He was a great man and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

His survivors include his sons, Raymond “Corky” Baker and wife, Pam, of Ardmore and Bob Baker and wife, Chris, of Tishomingo; sisters, Patsy Evans of Bartlesville and Jacque Jean of Healdton; grandchildren, Jason (Chris), Andrea, DeJay (Daniel), Dusty (Marisa), Brandon (Jalynn), Shanea (Shawn), Taylor (Chris) and Rilee; great-grandchildren, Weston, EmmaLee, Houston, Ty, Cooper, Hudson, Krue, Kamryn, Karsyn, Aaron, Austin, Kiara and Makayla and 14 great-great grandchildren.

Koke was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joan “Jodie” Baker; and a brother, Reso Baker.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Sulphur VA Center, Attn: Sulphur Veterans Benefit Fund, 301 Fairlane Avenue, Sulphur, OK 73086.  

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 18, 2020 at the First United Methodist Church, Maysville with Bro. Mike Deviney officiating. Burial was in the Maysville Cemetery, Maysville, Okla.
