School started today in the Heart of Oklahoma.
Crosswalks and neighborhood streets will be filled with children walking and bicycling to school.
The message is simple: Motorists - Put down the phone, stay alert and watch out for these precious, vulnerable children.

The Purcell High School Red & White Scrimmage will be held Saturday, August 13.
A silent auction will be from 5:15-6:45 p.m. with a live auction at 5:30 p.m. and the scrimmage to begin at 6 p.m.
Food and water will be available for purchase and will benefit After Prom.
Gate donations, soap, towels, deodorant, are encouraged.

Purcell High School Band Boosters are hosting a disc golf tournament Saturday, August 13, at the Dragon Disc Golf Course in Purcell.
The tournament is flex start from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. with three levels of play. Juniors are $20 per team, amateurs are $40 per team and the professional fee is $60 per team.
Burger baskets will be available for $10.

The August Heart of Oklahoma Chamber of Commerce luncheon will be held Friday, August 19, at 12 p.m. at the Mid-America Technology Center in Wayne.
The luncheon will feature superintendents Toby Ringwald, Dr. Sheli McAdoo, Chad Hall and Chris Reynolds who will be speaking on the “State of the Schools.”

Here’s an easy recipe everyone will love!
Beefy Rice-A-Roni Casserole
1 lb. ground beef
1 box Beef Rice-A-Roni
1 can Cream of Chicken soup
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
6 oz. container French fried onions
Preheat oven to 350º.
Lightly spray a 9×13-inch pan with cooking spray.
Prepare Rice-A-Roni according to package directions.
While rice is cooking, cook ground beef in a skillet. Drain fat.
In a mixing bowl, combine cooked beef, prepared rice and soup. Spread into prepared pan. Top rice mixture with cheese and French fried onions.
Bake for 20-25 minutes.
