The Purcell Public Library will present the “Dolly Day Family Story Time” Monday, January 19, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the meeting room of the library.

Story Time helps children develop strong language skills a foundation for success in school and beyond. This month, we’re adding a special treat!

Celebrate Dolly Parton’s 80th Birthday with special story time activities and snacks. These stories are designed to nurture young minds and build connections. Story Time is for children of all ages and their caregivers a wonderful opportunity to build early literacy and social skills through talking, reading, playing, and learning together.

McClain County Treasurer Michelle Williams reminds property owners in the county that 2025 tax statements are past due now.

Full or half payments were due before January 1.

The treasurer’s office can email tax statements if it is requested.

Here’s a good recipe so you can have dinner ready when you get home.

Slow-Cooker Cowboy Stew

2 lb. boneless stewing beef, cut into 2x1-inch pieces

2 Tbsp. each flour and chili powder

2 carrots, sliced

1 onion, chopped

3 stalks  celery, sliced

1 cup frozen corn

15 oz. can kidney beans, rinsed

16 oz. jar chunky salsa

1 cup water

1/4 cup  barbecue sauce

1 cup cheddar cheese

Brown meat, in batches, in large nonstick skillet on medium heat. Add to slow cooker. Sprinkle with flour and chili powder; stir to evenly coat meat.

Add all remaining ingredients except cheese; stir. Cover with lid. Cook on low 6 to 8 hours.

Top with cheese.
