Albert Leslie “Les” Hudson long ago established himself as a lifelong valuable member of the Purcell community.

He dutifully served Purcell for 30 years as a General Telephone Electronics (GTE) Technician from 1976 to 2006.

Les has loyally served 20 years as a deputy and sergeant with the McClain County Sheriff’s Department protecting and serving Purcell residents from 2006 to 2026.

So after two splendid careers spanning 50 years, Hudson is hanging it up.

Les, who served as a member of the Purcell City Council, was elected the first African American Mayor.

A definite Purcell Favorite Son, he has whole-heartedly served the citizens of Purcell with his patented smile and a big heart.

Les’ brother Michael Thompson read a proclamation from a state representative proclaiming Hudson’s contributions to Purcell.

Sheriff Landy Offolter had high praise for Hudson’s work with his department.

“He is one of the most dependable deputies I had,” Offolter said.

“I never worried about the safety and security of the courthouse when Les was working, He will be missed,” Offolter confirmed.

Hudson, who has been a member of the Purcell Rotary Club, is also well known for his fabulous cooking skills.
