Healthy Schools Oklahoma (HSOK), led by Bethany Children’s Health Center, recognized Tina Swayze of Purcell Intermediate as its 2025-26 Principal of the Year during the recent annual Summer Health Institute luncheon.

The 2025-26 Principal of the Year Award recognizes a school leader whose support creates lasting positive change throughout the school community.

This award honors a principal who leads by example, champions school wellness initiatives, and creates an environment where students and staff are encouraged to be healthy, engaged, and successful.

Swayze from Purcell Intermediate accepted the award alongside educators and school leaders from across Oklahoma during the annual event, which celebrates individuals and schools making a positive impact through health and wellness initiatives.

“Healthy schools help students succeed both in and out of the classroom,” said Lindsi Lemons, Director. “We are proud to recognize Tina Swayze from Purcell Intermediate for her dedication to creating opportunities for students to learn, grow, and thrive in a healthy environment.

“Our Principal of the Year Award recognizes a leader who makes student and staff wellness a priority. Swayze advocates for Healthy Schools Oklahoma initiatives, encourages professional growth and collaboration, promotes physical activity and healthy habits, and supports staff wellness through Healthy Fit meetings, health fairs, and other wellness activities.”

Healthy Schools Oklahoma partners with elementary schools across the state to promote wellness through education, resources, and recognition programs.

During the 2026–27 school year, Healthy Schools Oklahoma will work with 82 schools across Oklahoma, providing training, technical assistance, and support to help schools strengthen wellness initiatives that encourage physical activity, nutrition, tobacco use prevention, injury prevention, oral health education and other evidence-based practices that improve student success.

The Summer Health Institute provides professional development, networking opportunities, and recognition for educators and school leaders committed to improving the health and well-being of Oklahoma students.
