If you’re wondering just how dry it is, I’ve got a staggering fact for you.
In the first six months of 2025 the Heart of Oklahoma had recorded nearly 38”.
It was 37.54” to be exact.
In the last 14 months since then we have recorded 33.15”.
It’s no wonder why all the yards and crops are burned to a crisp.
Hay for livestock is going to be at a premium.
In 2025 we finished the year with 45.8” of rain.
Through August of this year, the total is a paltry 19.1” compared to 38.54” for the same time frame last year.
To say we need rain is a gross understatement.

McClain Bank and the City of Norman lost one of their finest with the death of Mary Sherman.
She was a past president of the Norman Rotary Club and District Governor in 2007-2008.
She was the District Governor when I was Purcell Rotary President so I was fortunate enough to attend training for Rotary Presidents in Norman under her guidance.
It goes without saying she was an integral part of the Pioneer Library System, serving as Branch Manager in Purcell and serving 20 years as the executive direction of PLS from 1987 to 2007.
Among other things that stood out in Mary’s obituary that can be found in this week’s Purcell Register was that she visited 86 different countries during her lifetime.
I’ve barely been in that many different counties.
Mary was one of the good ones and she will be missed by numerous sectors of the community, not to mention her family and colleagues on the McClain Bank Board.
