Homicide investigation in rural Lexington

Detectives are investigating a shooting death in rural Cleveland County that occurred over the weekend.

Cleveland County dispatch received a call requesting an ambulance in the 18000 block of 180th Street in Lexington.

The caller, Katherine F. Henderson, 35, stated the now deceased male, Rayburn M. Phillips, 46 of Lexington, had been shot in the abdomen.

Deputies and Wadley’s EMS responded finding Phillips with a single gunshot wound to the chest. Wadley’s EMS transported Phillips to Purcell Municipal Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Deputies cleared the scene, detaining Henderson and the decedent’s wife, April V. Phillips, 48.

Henderson and Phillips were booked into the Cleveland County Detention Center on charges related to the incident.

Authorities confirm the case remains under investigation.
