A well respected elderly citizen recently confronted me with a question for which I had no answer.
He asked why we don’t have signs that welcome people to town when they enter from the north or south.
Many towns do have welcome signs that make you feel appreciated when you enter the city limits.
I’m not sure why we don’t have the welcome mat signs, but it’s not a big change since we’ve never had anything like it, unless you count the big owl that resided on the south end of Green for all those years.
Whatever the reason for not having a welcome to Purcell sign, it’s a point well taken and something the city council could take a gander at.

The crowd was a lot more robust at the Purcell Bonus Auction last Monday than it has been in the past few years.
That’s a testament to the organizer Erica Keen and her assistants, the 4-H and FFA Booster Clubs.
Erica does a first class job as Purcell’s Agriculture Education Instructor and FFA Sponsor.
Tuesday night’s gathering was just another example of her leadership.

For whatever reason it seems like our country is split right down the middle on most any and all subjects.
But after last week’s horrible winter weather and record breaking low numbers, we can all agree that was a brutal stretch of cold.
Hopefully that’s the end of such temperatures for very long time to come.
