This Thanksgiving don’t forget to take a breath and soak in what all is around you.
And I’m not just talking about the ham or bird and all the trimmings.
Take in what really matters most, and that is all the ones gathered at the table around you.
Take minute to thank God for the roof over your head, time and effort your Mom or Grandmother put in cooking the food seasoned with not just salt and pepper, but with the love only they can provide.
To you of the younger generation, take a moment to savor the bonds you are cementing with those who have celebrated decades of Thanksgivings.
To you silver haired turkey gobblers, be thankful for not only having another holiday with which to make memories, but to soak in all the banter and frivolity of those your junior.
And don’t forget to think of those who don’t have a roof over their heads. Those who don’t have a table of plenty. To those who don’t have anyone with which to celebrate the holiday.
Take a moment to say a prayer for our service men and women serving around the globe so that you have that moment with loved ones and a table full of food.
To enjoy a room filled with laughter and stories about holidays gone by.
And say a prayer for those who used to sit at that table, but have passed away, and tell stories about them so they are not forgotten. And remember with stories those still living, but unable to make the gathering.
See who is the first person to say turkey has an ingredient that makes you sleepy or the first person to fall asleep while watching the Detroit Lions or the Dallas Cowboys on television.
And take a minute to remember why Thanksgiving is the best holiday of all, since its main goal is simply to bring family members together for another day of memory making and not about decorating, unwrapping gifts or anything else associated with all the commercialism.
Thanksgiving is just that. It’s all about giving thanks for what you have and those with whom you share it.
Happy Thanksgiving!
