Private family funeral services will be held at a later date for Gene Claunch, 87, of Purcell. Services will be under the direction of the Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.

Mr. Claunch passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2020.

Everett Eugene Claunch was born February 10, 1933 in Purcell, the eighth of nine children born to Jay Elwin Claunch and Donnie Delaney (Mason) Claunch. He grew up a farm boy, west of Purcell, picking cotton and broom corn.

Gene worked in construction most all of his life, working mainly for Jack Woodrow and Don Huddleston. When he wasn’t working, he loved to fish, watch his grandson, Cauy Hollis, play baseball and was always ready to help Rocky Bates work cattle or mow on the farm.

Gene especially loved old tales about the wild west, and never missed an opportunity to watch a good western. He was a wonderful father and grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be dearly missed!

He was preceded in death by his son, Wayne Keith Claunch; his parents, Jay and Donnie Claunch; three sisters, Vi Martin Jones, Susie Reynolds and Lu Ellen Loge and four brothers, Hershal, Buford “Doc,” Andy and Leonard.

Gene is survived by his sons, Danny J. Claunch of Wayne and Jimmy Don Claunch of Oklahoma City; daughters, Kathy Algood of South Carolina, Cathy Walker of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Amy Hollis of Purcell, Okla.; brother, Curt Claunch and wife, Clara Reece, of Lexington and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
