We’ve got a couple of friends that volunteer at the Olympics every time winter or summer games come along.
One of them writes a daily journal about his day at the games.
This is one of his entries in the February 12 epistle.
“This happens frequently (and it also happens often) here at the Olympics: People of all ages smile and say, “Dorothy,” when we tell them we are from Kansas.
Not Bob Dole nor Amelia Earhart nor Dwight Eisenhower nor Jim Ryun.
But Dorothy?”
Pretty funny.

In his February 13 journal he writes: “Friday the 13th is not an unlucky day in Italy. The unlucky day here is Friday the 17th. Who knew?”

Gotta wonder why Fridays get singled out.

What goes around comes around.
Back in the day, my sister and I used to be awake way after our paternal grandparents were fast asleep, neatly tucked away in their single beds side-by-side in their master bedroom.
We didn’t do anything nefarious but did have a little fun during their slumber.
Fast forward to this past Monday evening.
I had no idea why young Montgomerys, Jack and Thomas, were so intent on me coming into the den to watch the Olympics.
As soon as I walked in from work, Jack said, “I have the Olympics on,” in a booming voice.
After a couple of additional invitations to watch said sporting event, I sat down on the couch only to watch a 3,000 meter “speed” skating race.
As the skaters made their way around and around and around the track, the feisty youngsters kept asking me what the wall said.
Without thinking I figured the words were in Italian so I replied, “Probably something like Coca-Cola.”
They kept prodding until Gracie says, “Coca-Cola in 2014.
It finally dawned on me they had spoofed me into watching several minutes of the 2014 Games which brought sheer joy and laughter knowing they had tricked me.
