McClain County Fair has it all

The 2021 McClain County Free Fair will serve an entertaining mix of favorite and new special events starting today (Thursday).

Entries in the pie, cake and salsa contests will be accepted between 9 a.m. and noon.

Those entries will be judged at 1 p.m. – in plenty of time before they are auctioned at 6 p.m.

At 8:30 a.m. county youth will compete in horse and livestock judging contests.

There will be a tractor driving contest at 10:30 a.m.

If you are going to the fair this evening, be sure to bring your appetite. Heart of Oklahoma Kiwanis and McClain Bank are serving a bean supper and ice cream social starting at 5:30 p.m.

There will also be a 5:15 p.m. performance by the Centennial Square Dance Club.

The day’s final highlight will be the McClain County Fire Department Challenge at 7 p.m.

Friday’s fair activities will begin with sheep and market goat classes. Those will start at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., respectively.

Then the games begin.

A Dutch oven cooking competition will begin at 2:30 p.m.  and conclude at 5:30 p.m.

The public taste testing of the entries will begin at 6 p.m.

Each team will prepare a main dish, side dish and dessert.

Other special events include a dummy roping contest at 4 p.m., stick horse rodeo at 5 p.m., cornhole tournament at 5:30 p.m. and kiddie tractor pull at 6 p.m.

Before the fair closes on Saturday, the judging lineup includes swine and poultry shows at 9 a.m.,  rabbit show at 10 a.m. and cattle show at 11 a.m.

Fair superintendents this year are Johnny Roberts, fair manager; Laura Vandaveer, 4-H Building exhibits; Justin McDaniel, cattle; Jeff Evans and Drew Jervis, swine; Johnny Files, poultry; Melinda Tague, sheep; Brandon Morgan, market goat; Spence Bell, horse show; Tammy Elliott, rabbits; Kathy Langley, OHCE; Peggy Christian, open class, and Evans, livestock judging.
