Free lunch waiver program ending for schools

Posted

Universal free lunches for Purcell Public School students will end with the start of the 2022-23 school year.

The free meal program has been funded by the federal government as part of the CARES Act that was passed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Superintendent Dr. Sheli McAdoo explained that continuing the program for all students would require federal legislation to extend the waiver.

That, however, does not appear likely.

Instead, parents may fill out a free lunch form with the district to see if their child qualifies for a free lunch.
