Purcell’s City Council is looking for a replacement for the seat held by Joseph Franco.

Franco resigned his seat at Monday night’s regular monthly meeting at the Community Room of the Police Department due to career opportunities.

He said the new opportunities at the school would prevent him from giving the attention needed to fulfill his duties as a councilman.

Letters of interest to fill the position should be emailed to city.clerk@purcellok.gov, according to city clerk Andie Millsap.

At the meeting, July was proclaimed Parks & Recreation month.

The city fathers approved the appointment of Danny Jacobs to the Purcell Municipal Hospital Board to replace Todd Clouse, who recently termed out.

In his report, Interim City Manager Bobby Elmore told the board about advertising the old PMH property on the Oklahoma Department of Commerce website and on the city’s website (purcellok.gov). Elmore advised the council he has also reached out to various businesses and plans to advertise in other places.

During the city manager’s report, Robert Smith spoke about the I-35 interchange. He told the council 10 parcels have been secured while 18 parcels (14 owners) remain to be secured. The projected acquisition deadline is the end of August.

During the Purcell Public Works Authority portion of the meeting the board was informed that Well 13 is live while repairs continue on Well 11.

Concerning the repairs to the Red Hill steps, the city is waiting for CEC Corporation to respond to contract modifications suggested by legal council.

Once approved, CEC will do a topical survey to assess drainage issues and develop a plan for remediating the stairs.

The board was also told the plans are completed for the downtown landscaping with work to begin in the next two weeks.
