The last three November sales and use tax numbers have steadily gone down in Purcell.
In this week’s Purcell Register is the latest downward turn in the sales and use tax chart on page 2A.
We were told by city officials if we did the GreenScape project, downtown sales taxes would go up.
The past city manager said he’d never seen a town that did such a project do anything but increase sales taxes.
Now’s he’s seen one.

Food donations are especially needed this year due to the government’s shutdown trickling down to SNAP benefits, causing Oklahoma families to go hungry.
Operation Christmas is not only accepting toys and gifts, but also donations of canned food products.
Along those lines I know of at least one church in Purcell that cancelled its annual Thanksgiving luncheon and will donate funds that would have been used for it to instead be given to Delta Community Action.
The Lexington FFA Chapter and Lexington Methodist Church are hosting a free Thanksgiving Dinner on November 20.
The dinner will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the high school commons area.
Let’s all keep these types of donations in mind.

Getting into the giving act was a nice family on West Main Street in Purcell where a display offering free food was set up Monday morning.
I saw it on my way into work and it warmed me to see the Oklahoma Standard working its magic.

I guess the chances of us ever locking the clocks has about the same chance as a snowball surviving on the Fourth of July.
If Congress can’t run the country without messes like the current government shutdown, why would something as easy as locking the clocks be possible.
Does common sense ever come to mind?
